With Hurricane Matthew ripping towards the coast of Florida, a considerable 2,700 flights have been cancelled.
What do you do when your flight gets cancelled? Forbes.com posted a super helpful list of eight things to do when your flight is delayed or cancelled.
Fly in the morning. Delays accumulate like a butterfly effect, and it’s better to have a flight delayed or cancelled in the morning so you have the rest of the day to make other accommodations. If this happens at night, you might be stuck in a hotel overnight.
Avoid regional jets flying out of hub airports. Unfortunately, these flights aren’t high on the list of priorities at big airports. Stick to larger airlines at hub airports.
Before booking, check a route’s on-time performance. Airlines tend to be pretty consistent in their performance. FlightStats is a great source to check how on-time an airline tends to be.
Don’t check bags. Once you check your bags with the airline, you’ll need to rebook if anything happens to the flight. If possible, stick to carry ons.
If it’s late, grab a room. After 8 p.m. and there is no way to book a flight that same night, get comfortable. Book a hotel room for the night and get ready to deal with this the next day.
Call the airline while you wait in line. They’ll get to you before the person you’re waiting in line for will. Always be efficient.
Be the immovable object. Be a little stubborn, but don’t be an ass. Demand they put you on another flight, but don’t raise hell.
Use TripIt or WorldMate to rebook. These are helpful tools to rebooking.
