Travel Nightmares During the Holiday Season

HARRISONBURG, VA., November 12 2016- Resident and international travelers in the U.S. spend an average of $2.6 billion a day, $108.1 million an hour, $1.8 million a minute and $30,033 a second, according to US Travel.

There's no denying the stress of holiday travel. With more cars on the road, longer lines at air ports and higher chances of terrible winter weather, things are bound to go wrong. We've all heard horror stories from family or friends about things that didn't go their way when traveling, during the holiday season or not.

Now it's your turn. We want to hear from you about your very own travel disasters. We'll pick our favorite story and the winner will be featured in one of our upcoming blog posts.

Submit your stories to either our "Let's Talk" page, our direct messages on our Instagram @3travelers3timezones, or our twitter @threeetravelers.

The contest will run from Saturday, November 12th to Saturday, November 19th. The winner will be announced via an Instagram post the following Sunday.

Here are some of our personal stories just to help inspire you:

We were staying in a hostel in Barcelona that had one bathroom to share amongst 40 people half of which was a rugby team of boys ages 14-15. All of us had to throw up so badly from being hungover and the entire team seemed to be using the bathroom to take showers all morning so my friend and I both threw up over the balcony because we had nowhere else to go.

One time when I was in Budapest my friend and I got extreme food poisoning/explosive diarrhea while we were staying in an Air BNB with one bathroom and no windows/ air ventilation. It was pretty much the scene from bridesmaids.

Paige, 21

One time, I had a layover in London when I was 6, traveling with my grandma. I wasn’t nauseous or anything, just got up to go to use the bathroom. While getting up, I don’t know what happened but I ended up throwing up on the lady right in front of my seat. Safe to say the next 10 hours flight to India she wasn’t pleased with me.

Riya, 20

My trip to Greece over the summer almost got cancelled cause the airport I was supposed to fly out of in Turkey was bombed a few days before I left.

Lauren, 19

My luggage was lost for 6 days of a 10 day trip and I wore the same clothes for 50% of the time
